Harry Potter wasn’t filmed at Sydney University despite local belief, but wander through its corridors and you’ll immediately spot a likeness to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The university halls are now set to come alive for a wizarding tour where wannabe witches and wizards can get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the historic St Johns College building. Established in 1857, the academic establishment has a striking resemblance to the magical school and the Hogwarts-like space will soon swing open its doors and invite people to explore its sandstone halls, chapel, dining halls and reading rooms to get a glimpse of what life is like at the University.
Wizarding Tour, Sydney University
The tour will take place on Saturday, December 2 and it’s completely free to attend; head here to register and snag a spot. We’re told some magical characters might be joining you as well to make you feel like an actual Hogwarts student. If you want more, there are a number of heritage tours planned on the same date where you can delve deeper into sites on campus including the Quadrangle, Great Hall, MacLaurin Hall, Nicholson and Macleay museums. Head here to find out more.
The tours are part of Sydney University’s Alumni Festival which features talks, tours, fireworks, family-friendly events and a bunch of music performances. Over 60 events have been planned on Saturday, December 2 from 10am until late along with food and drink options on site. Even better, most of the events are free with the exception of the gigs at Manning Bar. Head here for further details.
