There’s no bar quite like Opera Bar in Sydney. Its location beneath the Sydney Opera House, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, is unmatched by pretty much any other bar in the city because how can you compete with the most photographed theatre in the world?
The festivities for its 50th anniversary have already begun and will continue for a year, featuring more than 230 events, experiences and performances including free concerts, exhibitions and new art projections on the iconic Opera House sails. The party is planned to continue until October 2023 when it will culminate with an official “Open Day”.
But, enough about the Sydney Opera House because we’re here to talk about the Opera Bar because this summer they’ve stopped taking bookings and are only accepting walk-ins. Don’t worry if you already made a booking for January since existing bookings will be honoured.
Even still, don’t imagine it’ll be easy to nab a seat. It’s summer and it’s always busy down that way. But who knows, you might get lucky if you just so happen to be wandering around. May as well try your luck.
If you do get lucky, Opera Bar has lined up live music every day. From 4pm to 7pm and 7pm to 10pm during the week, and 12pm to 3pm, 3:30pm to 6:30pm and 7pm to 10pm on the weekends, a whole host of local singers, musicians and DJs will be taking to the stage to perform for you. With the Opera House as their backdrop, the sounds of RnB, Latin, jazz, pop and more will float across the harbour.
