You won’t have to worry about post-Vivid Sydney blues this year because Moama Lights is returning and it’s bigger and brighter than ever. Taking over the NSW town of Moama and its twin Echuca across the water in Victoria, the festival is totally worth the drive out of town. Now in its third edition, the light festival aims to portray the spirit and story of the Murray border community through its many colourful events. From June 30 to July 23, Horseshoe Lagoon will be drenched in light and colour in this giant celebration of history and community.

Like its previous iterations, the festival will share stories from the region through state-of-the-art installations, projections and cutting-edge moving light technology along the 600-metre-long lit-up trail of the Horseshoe Lagoon. Foray into a field of vivid native flowers and soak up the rich history and culture of the community on this immersive journey. The show will spotlight the Echuca-Moama indigenous culture, riverboat heritage and present-day life.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring back Moama Lights for another year and encourage all those keen to come along to purchase their tickets early,” Murray River Council mayor Chris Bilkey said.
“This year’s event will celebrate the beauty of Echuca Moama through a spectacular sound and light show, and will offer additional entertainment that promises to be a great night out for all,” he said.
As you make your way along the rich Australian bush in the area, you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant light display and enveloped in a theatrical fog. After checking out the trail, be sure to stick around for fun on the ice-skating rink, as well as kids’ entertainment, food trucks and an American Hotel Beer Garden.
Moama Lights is organised by the Murray River Council and Visit River Country. It will run over four weekends from Thursday to Sunday and is a must-do activity this winter. Grab your tickets here.
