Earlier this year, plans were unveiled for a brand-new city to be built around the new Western Sydney Airport featuring a giant NYC-style Central Park. Now more details have been revealed on what we can expect from Bradfield City Centre, Australia’s newest city and the first to be built in over 100 years. The NSW Government has green-lit plans for 10,000 new homes for the new city with 10 per cent set to be affordable housing. The project will create 20,000 new jobs in the area.
Set to take shape under the Bradfield Development Authority, the Bradfield City Centre Masterplan will transform 114 hectares of land into a mixed-use city centre fit for both commercial and industrial purposes. There will be a strong focus on sustainable practices with 80 per cent of the roofs set to include gardens or bio-solar systems to combat urban heat with the overall masterplan focusing on culture, creativity and innovation.
Along with the 2-hectare Central Park, the Bradfield City Centre will also include an outdoor swimming pool which will be naturally integrated on Moore Gully and an events space on Thompsons Creek for outdoor and community-based events. The City Centre will also be within walking distance of the new Bradfield Metro.
The development is backed by a $1 billion investment from the state government and construction on the city’s first building, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) is currently underway. Meanwhile, the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is on track to begin operations in 2026. The new city will expand around the airport with upgraded roads, enhanced metro connections and contemporary, open spaces.
