Christmas is inching closer and Sydney’s favourite holiday events are returning including the Christmas light display at St Mary’s Cathedral and all the twinkling Christmas markets. In the spirit of tradition, the Sydney Fish Market is bringing back its huge 36-hour seafood marathon so you can get all your shopping done under one roof. The all-day, all-night event brings the freshest seafood in town, fruit, veggies, meats, and hot food to keep you fueled while you fill your bags.
Christmas 36-Hour Seafood Marathon
For the uninitiated, the mega-popular market swings open its doors for 36 hours, serving over 100,000 eager buyers looking to get some last-minute shopping done. Expect 350 tonnes of seafood including 120 tonnes of prawns, lobster, calamari and nearly 70,000 dozen oysters. And that’s not all. You’ll also find fresh bread, wines, cheeses, dry goods and a lot more for all your Christmas needs.
The marathon returns in 2023 for its 28th year and there’s a lot more on site including a gift shop and a florist. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the marathon.
What are the dates of the seafood marathon?
The market kicks off from 5am on December 23 to 5pm on Christmas Eve (December 24) for 36 hours straight. Santa will be roaming the market on December 23 and 24 from 9am-12pm so don’t forget to take a family picture.
Is there parking on site?
Yes, the main Sydney Fish Market car park will be open and extra parking is also available at Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay across the water. Parking will cost you a flat rate of $8 throughout the marathon.
What kind of seafood can you expect at the market?
You can expect everything under the sun including barramundi, flounder, ocean jacket, blue mackerel, mullet, snapper, blue mussels, blue swimmer crab and a lot more.
