Parramatta has been in the spotlight lately, from being named one of the world’s best food destinations to gearing up for the highly anticipated opening of Powerhouse Parramatta next year. The Western Sydney hub is also continuing to invest in its growing network of public spaces and outdoor attractions. Now, locals and visitors have another reason to head to the waterfront, with brand-new separated pedestrian and cycle paths opening through Queens Wharf Reserve. The new paths link Gasworks Bridge and Alfred Street Bridge, adding another scenic stretch to one of the suburb’s most popular spots for outdoor recreation.
New riverside paths open in Parramatta
Delivered by the City of Parramatta with funding from the NSW Government, the new paths wind through Queens Wharf Reserve and provide dedicated spaces for both pedestrians and cyclists.
Sharing the update on social media, City of Parramatta Councillor Kellie Darley said, “Morning walks/ cycles along Parramatta River just got even better, with the opening of the brand new, separated pedestrian and cycle paths through Queens Wharf Reserve between Gasworks Bridge and Alfred Street Bridge.”
The new paths add another way to explore the Parramatta River foreshore, which has become an increasingly popular destination for everything from early-morning walks and sunset strolls to weekend bike rides. They also offer another vantage point from which visitors can enjoy the Parramatta River and its surrounding green spaces.
Set on the northern bank of the Parramatta River, Queens Wharf Reserve is a quieter green space, offering open lawns, river views and easy access to the broader Parramatta Valley cycleway, which links a number of parks, reserves and waterfront destinations along the river.
