The October long weekend is almost here, bringing an extra day off and the perfect excuse to plan a quick trip out of town. If you’re still deciding where to go, why not head south and spend the day exploring one of the South Coast’s most charming country towns? Milton, around three hours from Sydney, is known for its heritage streetscape, excellent local food and scenic countryside, and this weekend there’s another reason to make the drive. The Milton Village Showground October Long-weekend Market takes over the town tomorrow, bringing together more than 200 specialty stalls, street food and live music for a huge day of shopping, eating and browsing. Here’s what you need to know before you go.
Please note: The Milton Village Showground October Long-weekend Market has been cancelled due to wet weather. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for further updates.
More than 200 stalls set to take over Milton Showground
There’s plenty to browse at the markets, with stalls spanning everything from handmade crafts, clothing and pottery to candles, plants, vintage pieces and collectables. Food is a major highlight of the event too, with Thai street food, doughnuts, sourdough, local honey and fresh produce among the options, alongside a barbecue run by the Milton Ulladulla Rotary Club. You can also pick up pantry staples including jams, relishes and chilli sauces, while fresh flowers, locally grown produce and free-range eggs add to the mix. Once you’ve worked your way through the stalls, grab something to eat and stick around for the live music.
If you’re making a weekend of it, there’s plenty more to explore around the region. Morton National Park has walking trails within easy reach of Milton, while the beaches and coastal towns around Jervis Bay are worth the detour. Head to Huskisson for cafes, beaches and waterfront walks, or tackle the 2.5km White Sands Walk, which winds past some of the striking white-sand beaches and clear water in the region. Booderee National Park is another excellent option further around Jervis Bay, with beaches, bushwalks and picnic spots including Green Patch.
