For four decades, Leichhardt has celebrated its Italian heritage with one of the country’s biggest outdoor festivals, and this October, the neighbourhood tradition is marking a major milestone. Norton Street Italian Festa is returning for its 40th anniversary, transforming the heart of Sydney’s Little Italy with over a 100 stalls dedicated to food, drinks, shopping and entertainment. Italian favourites will naturally be a major part of the day, alongside an expanded live music program, family activities and the return of the popular classic car display. Several new additions are also planned especially for the anniversary edition, adding even more colour to the festivities. Here’s what to expect at Norton Street Italian Festa 2026.
Norton Street Italian Festa returns this October

Food will be the major highlight of the event, with pizza, gnocchi, pasta, panzerotti, porchetta, grilled octopus, cannoli and gelato among a slate of other Italian favourites on the menu. Several established Leichhardt names are joining the line-up, including Bar Italia, Capriccio, Il Cugino, Locantro and Mezzapica Cakes, alongside visiting chefs and producers. The Royal Hotel will also spill onto the street with an outdoor food and drinks area, including a Mediterranean menu from chef Remy Davis.
Music is also a big focus for the anniversary edition. A new stage near Pioneers Memorial Park will host the NSW Police Band, tenor Matthew Reardon and Phillip Johnston and his trio, while another stage near Leichhardt Town Hall will feature jazz, live vocals and other performances. An Italian music DJ will also be stationed among the main food stalls.
Over in Pioneers Memorial Park, AutoFesta will showcase classic Italian cars and motorcycles from names including Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ducati and Vespa, alongside amusement rides, face painting and other activities for younger visitors, with plenty on offer for all ages.

Getting there
Public transport is recommended, with road closures and parking restrictions in place around Norton Street throughout the day. The L1 light rail stops at Marion and Leichhardt North, both within walking distance. Petersham is the closest train station, but planned trackwork will see buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Central, so allow extra travel time. If you do drive, limited paid parking is available at MarketPlace Leichhardt, Norton Plaza and the Italian Forum, but spaces are expected to fill quickly. Plan your trip on Transport for NSW.
