2025 is shaping up to be a big year for hikers and nature lovers, with a wave of new trails opening across NSW. From the South Coast’s scenic Southern Headlands Walk to the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk, which winds past rainforests and ancient landscapes, and the newly opened Munjip Trail that blends bush and beach views, there’s plenty to explore across the state. But if those stellar walks feel a bit out of reach, we’ve got good news. A short but scenic new boardwalk has just opened right outside Sydney, offering glistening riverside views and a stretch of ancient mangroves. Tucked along the foreshore between Kangaroo Point and Seymours Creek in Brooklyn, the Kangaroo Point Boardwalk is perfect for soaking up the winter sun. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
The Kangaroo Point Boardwalk

The low-impact, elevated design of the boardwalk was built with the natural bushland in mind, helping protect the salt marsh, mangroves, and surrounding environment. Just 1km long, the elevated boardwalk is easy, flat, and accessible for all fitness levels. If you’re keen to keep exploring, it also links to a 3km shared path that stretches from Baden Powell Avenue in Brooklyn Village to Kangaroo Point.
Plan a quick weekend getaway or make a day of it by exploring Brooklyn’s quaint cafes and shops. You can also catch the ferry to nearby Dangar Island, a car-free, tranquil escape that feels worlds away, even though it’s just an hour from Sydney.
NSW Minister for Transport John Graham said, “Set in a stunning location, this new shared path will provide a safe and accessible connection between Brooklyn Village and Kangaroo Point.”
“The new pathway allows people to connect with the landscape while preserving its unique ecosystems for generations to come,” Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said, adding that the new walking destination is a great spot for the local community to relax and soak up the area’s rugged natural beauty.

How to get there
The Kangaroo Point Boardwalk is conveniently located just about an hour’s drive from Sydney, or a 20-minute drive from Wahroonga Station. There’s parking close by, but it’s also accessible by train. Just hop on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and get off at Hawkesbury River Station in Brooklyn; the boardwalk is a short walk from there. Plan your travel at Transport for NSW.
