The lights have been dimmed and curtains closed on Sydney’s theatre scene for quite some time now. Iconic musicals like Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton and Come From Away were set to take the stage by storm but had to be postponed due to the covid-19 chaos in Sydney. With news of the city reopening with a three-step plan, businesses are also planning a cautious return. After Hamilton announced its grand return to the Sydney Lyric Theatre, Jagged Little Pill — the 15-time Tony Award nominated Broadway musical is coming to Sydney for an exclusive season.

Named after Canadian musician Alanis Morissette’s Grammy-winning album of the same name, the musical was first set to open in Sydney in September but was postponed due to the ongoing covid-19 outbreak.
Jagged Little Pill is a dynamic musical which touches upon what it means to be living in America in the 21st century. It follows a Connecticut family who seem to have everything together, but are secretly falling apart.
Morissette stans can look forward to the legend’s many memorable soundtracks on stage right from ‘You Oughta Know,’ to ‘Head Over Feet,’ and ‘Hand In My Pocket.’ And it’s not just another jukebox singalong show, the production has moved fans around the world to tears and laughter along with a heady rush of nostalgia.
The musical will feature music by Morissette and six-time Grammy Award winner Glen Ballard, an original story written by Oscar Award winner Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully). The production is Directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin) with Natalie Bassingthwaighte starring.
And that’s not all — this is also primed to be the first show at the refurbished Theatre Royal Sydney since it closed its doors in 2021.
