Dolly Parton is bringing the live musical version of her 1980 comedy 9 to 5 to Sydney. The Australian debut of the musical will open at the Capitol Theatre in February with tickets on sale now. This is one of many exciting musicals that is coming to Sydney this summer along with Phantom of the Opera and Girl from the North Country.
Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5
A much-loved feature on the West End, the musical revolves around the lives of Doralee, Violet and Judy — three ambitious and resourceful workmates who have been pushed to the edge by their egotistical boss Franklin Hart Jnr. The ladies dream up a no holds barred scheme to kidnap their boss and teach him a lesson — with fun, style and pizazz.
9 to 5 remains popular among fans of the American singer-songwriter and multi Grammy award-winner and promises an absolute riot.
The show is mischievous, hilarious and full of heart and just the remedy we need after a rough start to the year.
Even better — the musical comes with a dazzling score by Dolly Parton herself along with a book by the hit movie’s original screenwriter Patricia Resnick.
“I am beyond excited that we can finally bring this show to Australia,” Dolly Parton said in a statement.
“The response to 9 to 5 from around the world has been incredible. The overwhelmingly positive fan reaction to this universal story tickles every rhinestone on my body! I can’t wait for more people throughout Australia to have a good ole singalong, and the time of their life.”
