For fans of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and J. R. R. Tolkien’s work in general, a visit to Hobbiton is an essential bucket list experience. Now eager fans of Middle Earth are getting a chance to enjoy overnight stays at the original Hobbiton film set courtesy of Airbnb for a measly $10 per person. Tucked away in the lush pastures of New Zealand’s Waikato region on a 2,500-acre working farm, the sprawling property was transformed into a movie set for the three Lord of the Rings movies and the subsequent Hobbit sequels. It’s the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, hence the excellent opportunity.
Hobbiton, Airbnb
If you’ve dreamt of living in The Shire and making The Green Dragon your local watering hole, now is your chance. Follow in the footsteps of Bilbo, Frodo and Sam and embark on your own Middle Earth adventure with this exclusive offer.
Aside from the Preciousss overnight accommodation in a personal hobbit hole, guests will also be treated to themed food and drink and a behind-the-scenes private tour of the film set. Feast like a respectable hobbit on beef and ale stew, whole roast chickens and freshly baked bread and ale. Of course, Second Breakfast, Elevenses and even some Afternoon Tea will be served daily.
“For more than two decades, we’ve welcomed millions of passionate fans to the Hobbiton movie set but never before has anyone had the opportunity to spend a night in Middle-earth,” host Russell Alexander said in a press release.
“I am delighted to share the beauty of my family’s farm and pleased to be hosting this iconic location on Airbnb for fans from around the world.”
Unfortunately, Hobbiton isn’t becoming a permanent Airbnb site. Only three individual two-night stays for up to four guests at NZD $10 per night are available in this extremely rare opportunity.
Stays are available on March 2 – 4, March 9 – 11, and March 16 – 18, 2023, and bookings will open from 10am on December 14. To snag a spot, see many more pictures and get all the details, head over to the Airbnb website.
