War of the Rohirrim will explore the bloody tale of Helm’s Deep.
LoTR fans, rejoice! It seems like we’re getting a chance to revisit Middle Earth in more ways than one in the coming years. Apart from Amazon Prime’s highly anticipated, multi-season adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, it has recently been announced that New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers Animation are working on a new Lord of the Rings movie titled War of the Rohirrim — in anime form.
As reported by Deadline, the movie will unravel the history behind Helm’s Deep — the epic battle scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002).
The movie, however, will be quite different from the show which features the second age — much before the War for the Ring. Whereas The War of the Rohirrim will take a deeper look into the kingdom of Rohan and its powerful king Helm Hammerhand. The story is set in the third age of Middle Earth.
Philippa Boyens, who co-wrote the screenplay for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be involved in the project as a consultant. It remains to be seen if Peter Jackson himself will have any involvement with the anime project.
Japanese anime director Kenji Kamiyama, writer of Higashi no Eden (2009), Napping Princess (2017) and Akira (1988) will helm the movie.
No details on cast or dates have yet been released but we’re excited to revisit Tolkein’s epic fantasy world once again.
