Put some life into this glum weather and head out to explore some of these epic indoor activities around town
The rains have been relentless this week and if weather predictions are to be believed we’re in for a very wet weekend. Considering how much we love the outdoors and sunshine down here in Sydney, the rains can be a bit of a spoilsport. However, despite the weather taking a turn for the worse, your weekend doesn’t have to be spent moping about. Here are a bunch of actually fun indoor activities you can do without braving the pouring rains. (Featured image: Road Trip with Raj.)
1. Visit an art gallery
At the moment, Lumen is on at the White Rabbit Gallery which is a fun exhibition full of vivid installations and a musical instrument made of light beams. The Other Art Fair featuring the art works of around 100 budding artists promises to be a fascinating experience.
2. Experience dining in the dark
A fascinating experience for foodies and those who enjoy a bit of adventure and living on the edge- the dining in the dark event is a great choice to liven up this dreary weekend. Essentially, you can enjoy a three-course meal at Darlinghurst’s Madame Shanghai restaurant- enveloped in darkness and blindfolded.
3. Enjoy a jazz night at Mama Saan
You can enjoy live jazz music and other groovy pieces at Mama Saan in Bondi on Wednesdays and Sundays. Also on offer is a five-course Japanese fusion and a glass of wine. It’s the perfect way to beat the weekend blues and let loose.
4. Visit a gorgeous insta-worthy café
When it comes to café culture, you really can’t compete with Sydney. And what better time than now to explore one of these stunners. Be it close to the water at Celsius Coffee Co. or in the middle of a floral oasis at Social Hideout, there are a host of beautiful cafes that can seriously make your Insta pop.
5. Attend a wine and paint class
Studios like Cork & Chroma and Pinot & Picasso allow you to take a crack at painting and explore your inner artist- with a glass or two of wine in tow. There are a host of events to choose from and heaps of wine. Need we say more?
6. Take in a show
While you may be tempted to get inside your duvet with the latest Netflix series, give these fun shows around the city a thought. You can enjoy a night of burlesque, cabaret and comedy at the Bamboozle Room, book tickets for Hamilton or check out one of these gigs around town.
7. Find a bookshop with a café
It’s the perfect activity to unwind and that much more relaxing with the rain pouring outside. Grab a cuppa and relax with a book at Gertrude & Alice at Bondi, Ampersand Cafe in Paddington or Sappho Books in Glebe.
8. Experience Monet & Friends
This dazzling experience which is a follow up of Van Gogh Alive is a must-see. You can take in the artworks of distinguished artists Claude and co- the French masters of the 19th century along with a soothing musical score in the background. It’s the perfect indoor activity to indulge in this weekend.
