There are now three new reasons to visit Darling Harbour. The harbourside precinct has welcomed three swanky new spaces: A shell-shaped live music venue, a huge recreational playground and a lovely bamboo forest walk. The new spaces are part of a multimillion-dollar upgrade by the NSW government as part of its 2025 vision for Darling Harbour.
“Darling Harbour is the third most visited destination in NSW and so many of us have celebrated big moments there. The Darling Harbour 2050 Vision will also guide future decision-making and secure this harbourside precinct as a world-famous destination for generations to come,” Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said.
Here’s what you need to know about all three spaces.
New public spaces in Darling Harbour
Live music fans can get excited for the new sound shell at Tumbalong Park which is set to be home to everything from live concerts to sporting events and local community festivals after a $10 million investment from Placemaking NSW. The space boasts modern features like digital screens, speakers, and a flexible stage and the interesting design of a cantilevered roof resembling a cockle shell.
A highlight for nature lovers is the bamboo forest walk which meanders through the heart of the Chinese Garden of Friendship. The picturesque garden now has a lovely bamboo forest walk and a photogenic friendship bridge which connects the existing garden to a repurposed area including 20 per cent more accessible open public spaces. The space has been dubbed the “Meandering Pathway of Tranquillity” and spans the Lotus Pavilion and the Seven Sages Walk finishing at the base of a lovely waterfall.
Kids and kids at heart will also enjoy Darling Harbour’s new playground which offers decks, ramps, bridges, a climbing tower, and even a slide.
The new spaces are part of a larger development plan for Darling Harbour and locals can expect more green spaces in the coming years.
