Sydney’s skyline is set for a dramatic transformation after plans were approved for a landmark residential development that will redefine the city’s tallest buildings. Rising above the CBD, the ambitious Castlereagh Place development promises to reshape a prominent block near Hyde Park while introducing new public spaces, retail and hospitality offerings as part of a fresh urban renewal. Once complete, the development is set become a striking new addition to the cityscape, combining luxury living with new attractions designed to bring more life to the precinct. It also comes as Sydney continues to see a wave of major redevelopment projects reshaping the city including Powerhouse Parramatta, the historic North Sydney Olympic Pool and the new Sydney Fish Market. Sydney’s tallest residential towers get the green light
The City of Sydney has approved the $3.5 billion Castlereagh Place development, paving the way for two 82-storey residential towers that will become the tallest of their kind in the city. Planned for a 6,000sqm site bounded by Castlereagh, Pitt and Liverpool streets, the project will deliver 607 apartments, a 209-room luxury hotel and a network of swanky new public spaces designed to better connect the surrounding streets.
The development will include Australia’s highest rooftop swimming pool, positioned 262 metres above ground offering panoramic views across the CBD, Sydney Harbour, Hyde Park and the Royal Botanic Garden. The project will also include an exclusive residents’ club with a gym, cinema, golf simulator, library, dining rooms and co-working spaces, alongside a dedicated wellness centre featuring magnesium pools and hot and cold plunge pools. A concierge service, landscaped communal areas and around 500 basement car parks are also planned as part of the luxury project.
Excavation is expected to be particularly complex due to the scale of the project and its location above existing underground transport infrastructure, although demolition is already underway. Once construction begins, the project is expected to take at least three and a half years to complete.
