After a run of packed-out local events across Sydney — from the Bankstown night market to the Thirlmere Festival of Steam — it’s clear the cooler months aren’t slowing anything down. Instead, winter is shaping up to be one of the most exciting times to get out and explore, Sydney with markets, festivals and large-scale events popping up across the city. This weekend, the focus shifts to the west, where a suburban park will be transformed into a full-scale medieval village complete with knights, battles and old-world pageantry. The Blacktown City Medieval Fayre is bringing two days of live combat, artisan stalls and immersive experiences to Nurragingy Reserve, offering something a little different from the usual weekend lineup. Here’s everything you need to know.
Blacktown City Medieval Fayre returns this weekend

Pull out a cloak and step into another era this weekend — the Blacktown City Medieval Fayre offers an immersive experience, encouraging visitors to dress the part and join in on the fun. Capes, armour and flowing gowns are all part of the atmosphere here, with a Best Dressed competition adding an extra layer of fun across both days.
Across the weekend, the fayre will centre around a packed program of live demonstrations and interactive experiences, with some of the biggest drawcards taking place in the main arena. Visitors can watch armoured knights go head-to-head in full combat displays, alongside scheduled jousting competitions featuring riders travelling from across the country. Between sessions, the grounds will be filled with medieval encampments, working displays, hands-on activities and more.
Beyond the festivities, the event also features a mix of artisan stalls, themed goods and handmade crafts, alongside food vendors serving everything from gozleme and loaded potatoes to churros and traditional medieval-themed treats. Vendors like The German Grill Haus, BlackBear BBQ and Dutch Poffertjes House will be among those on site. There’s also a strong family focus, with archery games, pony and camel rides, craft workshops and a miniature railway running throughout the day.
