It’s a tale as old as time and when 2023 rolls around, Sydneysiders will be the first to experience the glorious Beauty and the Beast Musical. Beauty and the Beast Musical
2022 has shaped up to be quite the year for musical theatre in Sydney. Some serious heavyweights have breathed fresh life into the live theatre industry after a tough two years. Disney in particular has had quite the run with heavyweights like Mary Poppins and Frozen the Musical taking centrestage.
In exciting news, the creative team behind the original will return for this reimagined production. Matt West will be at the helm directing and choreographing. Composer Alan Menken, lyricist Tim Rice and costume designer Ann Hould-Ward will band together for a spectacular show. Get ready to sing along to fan favourite tunes like ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
Beauty and the Beast has arguably been Disney’s most successful musical playing in thirteen countries and 115 cities since its premiere on Broadway in 1994. Come winter next year, Sydneysiders will be invited to be their guest as we finally get a taste of the magic.
It’s highly unlikely that you’re not familiar with the classic but in the off chance that you aren’t — we have a Belle and a Beast. Belle hates Beast, Beast slowly falls in love with Belle. It’s a heartwarming and nostalgic tale and a guaranteed good time for everyone.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said that the production is expected to draw more than 400,000 musical lovers to the Harbour City during its Australian premiere season.
“Sydney is the nation’s home of world-class theatre. Bringing blockbuster musicals like Beauty and the Beast to Sydney first is key to turbocharging the NSW visitor economy.”
The Australian cast for the show is yet to be revealed. Keep your eyes peeled on their official website for further updates.
