Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton) is currently the most significant aviation project in the country, designed to operate 24/7 without a curfew when it officially opens. While the multi-billion-dollar precinct at Badgerys Creek is slated to welcome its first passenger flights this October, the public will get an exclusive early look at the facility well before the first jets arrive. For one day only, the airport’s brand-new runway will open to thousands of runners and walkers as part of a large charity fun run, giving participants the chance to stride along the tarmac of Australia’s newest international gateway. Western Sydney International Airport’s Charity Fun Run
The one-day event will take place on April 26, and offers a range of distances designed to accommodate everyone from serious endurance athletes to local families. Participants can choose from several distances, including a half marathon, 14km, 7km and 4km race, along with a separate community runway walk for families and casual participants.
Runners tackling the longer distances will complete multiple laps along the wide, uninterrupted stretch of tarmac, while shorter races cover smaller sections of the course. With no hills, intersections or tight turns, the route is expected to be one of the flattest race courses in Sydney, making it an appealing option for those hoping to chase a personal best. Beyond the racing, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. Participation helps fund essential equipment, medical fellowships, and support services for young patients.
For those entering the competitive races, first-release pricing is available until March 27, with the 4km run starting at $24 and the half-marathon at $117. Prices are scheduled to increase on March 28 as the event date approaches. All participants will receive a finisher’s medal to mark the historic occasion, with the first races kicking off from 7.00am.
