You’ve seen Rent. You’ve seen the award-winning film, tick, tick… BOOM! Now, see it live on stage when it comes to Sydney this year. tick, tick… BOOM!
This rock musical will take you back to 1990 when a promising young composer questions his life choices on the cusp of turning 30. Grappling with his career as an artist, and torn between fear and love, he ponders the question, “What do we do with the time we have?”
Larson was an American composer, lyricist and playwright famous for writing Rent and tick, tick… BOOM!, which explored issues of multiculturalism, substance use disorder and homophobia. Just prior to Rent’s opening night, Larson tragically passed away at age 36. He received three posthumous Tony Awards and a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Rent.
Just last year, tick, tick… BOOM! was released as a film. Directed by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, and starring Andrew Garfield, it was dubbed as one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute. At the Golden Globes, it was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Garfield won an award for Best Actor.
tick, tick… BOOM! premiered Off-Broadway in 2001, and has since had a US national tour, a West End production and numerous international productions. It will tour Sydney after a successful run in Melbourne and Brisbane.
