The Sydney Fair returns to the Royal Randwick Racecourse this May with thousands of collectibles on offer from some of Australia’s finest antique and vintage dealers. A favourite amongst old-school shoppers, the fair offers a charming collection of unique fashion pieces dating back to the 60s. Fashion lovers and collectors can expect a treasure trove of vintage memorabilia at the fair including a pair of art deco chairs used in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby to a pair of Gucci handcuffs from 1998. Plus expect a stacked program of talks, supporting events and art appraisals. You can also hear from Fashion Anthropologist Tom McEvoy and Vintage Stylist and Eleanor Keene, who will talk about distinguished fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.
To mark the King’s coronation which falls on the same weekend, The Sydney Fair is bringing a special exhibition of royal pieces including a William IV sterling silver covered bowl from 1831, royal brooches dating back to 1905 and a complete program of the coronation of King Edward VVI from 1902.
Visitors can also enjoy a glimpse of fashion from the yesteryears as the fair revisits a number of iconic fashion destinations in history including Cairo in the 20s, Shanghai in the 30s, NYC in the 40s, Paris in the 50s, London and Hawaii in the 60s and Los Angeles in the 70s.
