Who would’ve thought doing your business could look this pretty? It’s a question you might ask yourself on a visit to The Cistern Chapel, a truly fancy dunny located in Maryborough, three hours north of Brisbane. Since it reopened back in May, the lavish loo has attracted thousands of visitors, and we’re not surprised in the slightest.
The bathroom has been transformed into a work of art, with murals on all the walls as well as decorations and chandeliers hung up for a pop of elegance with your excretion.
Reportedly, the toilets used to be quite the opposite of what they are now, so the council and community joined forces, with an aim to create the flashiest public bathroom in Australia.
Two years later, The Cistern Chapel has opened its doors for public use, and it’s already getting labelled as Australia’s best public toilet. So it looks like Maryborough has succeeded in their endeavours.
So if you’re looking for an excuse for a getaway, this might be it.
Plus, there are heaps of awesome spots close to the town, including Fraser Island if you wanted an extended trip.
Fun fact: Maryborough is also famous for being the hometown of P.L Travers, the original author of Mary Poppins.
