Sydney Airport’s new $2.6 billion road has officially opened and you won’t have to pay any additional tolls to use this network. Connecting the St Peters Interchange and the M8 to the International and Domestic Terminals of Sydney Airport, Sydney Gateway will save commuters an estimated 17 minutes according to the NSW Government.
Sydney Gateway
The ambitious project which promises Sydneysiders both toll-free travel and time efficiency includes a flyover into the domestic terminal, two arched bridges around the international terminal, and upgrades to the existing Airport Drive for motorists.
Commuters will notice new connections and lane changes in and around the airport precinct. While travellers from Parramatta will save time on the new route, some journeys are set to remain the same including from the North Shore and the Northern Beaches via the Eastern Distributor motorway, from the Eastern Suburbs via Gardeners Road, Wentworth Avenue or Foreshore Road and from South Sydney via Princes Highway or General Holmes Drive.
Transport for NSW says the Sydney Gateway will provide an alternative route to around 100,000 trucks daily. The route will also feature three kilometres of new pedestrian and cycle paths along Alexandra Canal with Indigenous artwork on the cards.
