Whether it’s a classic cheeseburger or a loaded specialty creation, Sydney’s burger scene packs a punch. Now one Sydney restaurant has just been recognised among the world’s best burger destinations, earning a place near the top of a newly released global ranking. Published annually by the team behind the World’s Best Burgers list, the guide highlights standout venues from across the globe, with only a small number of Australian restaurants making the cut. This year, Sydney performed particularly well, with two local burgers landing in the top 10 — and an impressive total of six making the top 20. Leading the charge was Neil Perry’s Café Margaret in Double Bay, whose American Cheeseburger was ranked the third best burger in the world. Check out the full list.
Double Bay burger restaurant lands in global top three
The American Cheeseburger at Café Margaret was the highest-ranked Australian entry on the 2026 list, placing third only behind London’s Bleecker Burger and Black Bear Burger. Created by acclaimed chef Neil Perry, the hearty burger features a daily-ground blend of brisket and chuck beef topped with melted American cheese, pickles, onion and the restaurant’s signature rose mayo, all served in a milk bun.
According to the ranking, judges assessed venues across a diverse range of criteria including consistency, ingredient quality, guest experience, sustainability and overall execution. The result places Café Margaret alongside some of the most highly regarded burger destinations in the world and marks one of the strongest performances by an Australian venue in this year’s rankings.
Also making a splash was The International Burger at The International, which secured a spot in the global top 10, landing in tenth place.
Sydney’s dominance extended well beyond the top 10. Eat at ROBs, Paul’s Famous Hamburgers, Mister Gees and Mary’s also secured places in the top 20, giving the city an excellent six entries overall.
