Sydney Airport’s lost property auction has returned with thousands of lost and forgotten items up for grabs. Running until Sunday, February 12, the auction features over 3000 unclaimed items including handbags, clothing, cameras, jewellery, watches, phones, laptops and even an air fryer. There are also some pretty bizarre items listed as part of the auction.
“We even got some rather unique sales like a hedge trimmer, circular saw, and sun lounge, although we’re still scratching our heads wondering how that ended up at the airport,” Airport CEO Geoff Culbert said calling the items left behind a “treasure trove.”
He added that over 4000 items left behind at the airport last year have been returned to their owners but unclaimed items have been put up for sale. Other interesting items include Gucci ear clips, Chanel perfumes, Apple computers and Hermes bangles.
The online auction has raised over $1.4 millions for charity since it first started in 2013 according to Sydney airport. This year round, bids start at prices as low as $5 with proceeds set to go to the Bayside Women’s Shelter.
Since millions of passengers travel via Sydney airport every year, thousands of items tend to get lost in transit. Unclaimed items are then put up for sale which has delighted bargain hunters every year. The online lost property auction for charity is back after a two-year break post-COVID.
