Sydney Airport’s lost property auction has returned with thousands of lost and forgotten items up for grabs. The auction features over 2,000 unclaimed items, including handbags, clothing, cameras, jewellery, watches, phones, and laptops. Some of the more bizarre items listed as part of the auction include a vacuum cleaner, an air fryer, The Lord of the Rings book collection and even a violin.
While around 5,000 of the 7,000 items misplaced at the airport last year were reunited with their owners, the rest were sent to Theodore Bruce Auctioneers to go under the hammer. Among the many items left behind are a number of jewellery items, over 250 watches, 250+ laptops, 80 handbags, 50 cameras, 3 surfboards, a coffee machine, two pairs of binoculars and 60 Kindles.
According to Sydney Airport, the online auction has raised over $1.4 million for charity since it first started in 2013. This year, bidding kicks off at just $10, with all proceeds helping local families tackle cost-of-living pressures by funding swimming lessons for children, in partnership with Sydney’s Inner West Council.
“It’s worth noting that checked baggage is managed by individual airlines and is not included in the auction. Travellers looking for lost baggage should contact their airline directly,” Sydney Airport said.
Starting Tuesday, June 10, the online auction will open for bids on its first round of items. This year’s auction schedule and categories are as follows:
- Tech & Gaming — Tuesday, June 10 at 11am
- Jewellery & Watches — Wednesday, June 11 at 11am
- Clothing & Shoes — Thursday, June 12 at 11am
- Sunglasses, Scarves & Accessories — Thursday, June 12 at 2pm
- Beauty, Alcohol & Home — Friday, June 13 at 11am
