This summer, Sydneysiders will be able to catch a movie under the stars in yet another beautiful location. The Sunset Cinema has returned for summer 2024 with an excellent line-up of movies ranging from fresh blockbusters to old classics and family favourites. The summer fixture joins Moonlight Cinema and Westpac OpenAir Cinema in bringing back all the outdoor movie magic to the city once again.
What’s on at Sunset Cinema?
Hosted at the North Sydney Oval, the Sunset Cinema runs Wednesday through to Sunday, across 3 months, with a stellar line-up of movies on offer until the final screening on March 8.
The 2024 program kicks off with new releases like Studio Ghibli’s latest triumph The Boy and The Heron, Timothee Chalamet’s origin story Wonka, and Taika Waititi’s sunny new comedy Next Goal Wins. Relive the adrenaline rush of Marvel’s latest blockbuster The Marvels and Tom Cruise’s return to the skies in Top Gun: Maverick. Throughout the school holidays, the outdoor cinema is bringing a heap of family friendly screenings including new Disney film Wish, musical Trolls Band Together and more.
Plan a special date night on Valentine’s weekend with a screening of the peerless 90s comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, and keep your eyes peeled for new releases such as the Mean Girls Musical, fast-paced biopic Ferrari, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest release, the bizarre yet endearing Poor Things.

Other stellar features of the outdoor cinema include an on-site snack bar serving freshly popped popcorn, classic choc tops and a number of sweet and savoury snacks. There are heaps of other food options available on-site and you can also pre-order a grazing platter with a delicious selection of cheeses. Along with food, guests can beat the heat with refreshing drinks by Manly Spirits and Mountain Culture.
A variety of ticket options are available and gates open at 7pm with the movie starting at the last light, around 8pm. Bean lounges and bean bags are available to make your evening extra cosy.
