You may have seen bursts of bright yellow sunflower posts all over social media, but where exactly are they located? A bit further out from Sydney, you’ll find these gorgeous sunflower fields sprinkled around NSW that are well worth the short road trip. Whether you’re dreaming of your next Instagram shot or simply keen for a walk amongst these joyful golden blooms, here are some sunflower fields near Sydney to feast your eyes on this summer, including some spots where you can pick your own sunflowers.
1. Glenbernie Family Farms
The sunflower fields in Kurmond at the Glenbernie Family Farm have been a magnet for TikTok and Instagram influencers, and at 60km from the city, they’re one of the closest sunflower fields to Sydney. One look at their gorgeous blooms and it’s easy to see why. You can also pick your own flowers or enjoy a picnic in the flower fields at this picturesque spot. The sunflower fields here opened for visitors in mid-October, so you can visit them right now, and you don’t need to book in advance. Entry is a bargain at $10 for adults, and free for kids under 3, whilst sunflowers are $6 each. The farm also offers free parking and a bouncy castle, and dogs are welcome on a leash, but one thing you will need to bring is your own secateurs. Get more information here.

2. The Bloom Barn
Just under two hours from Sydney, you’ll find The Bloom Barn, one of our favourite places to pick sunflowers near Sydney. Walk around their delightful fields and pick a bouquet of cheerful flowers, with sessions open Friday to Sunday through late November, and from Thursday to Sunday in December. Tickets are $23.50 for adults, with family passes available for $74; this gets you entry to the farm, parking, pruning shears, and access to some fun kids activities. For adults, there’s a much-welcomed coffee cart to perk you up. See the latest info and book tickets on their website.

3. Hunter Valley Sunflowers
Located — unsurprisingly — in the Hunter Valley, you’ll find a large field of beautiful sunflowers with artfully arranged props and photo opportunities aplenty. Currently closed, the sunflower field tends to open around early January for adventures amongst the flowers, so keep your eyes on their Instagram page for updates. Typically, the farm allows visitors to pick their own sunflowers for $3 a stem, with a standard $5 entry for adults, whilst kids under 16 go free.

4. Liverpool Plains
Liverpool Plains is a 4.5 hour drive out to the North West Slopes region of NSW. Sunflowers are sown twice in the area, once during Christmas time and once during the months of February and March. You can see sunflowers spread throughout the Liverpool Plains, although it is highly advised to ask permission before entering these fields. The sprawling sunflower crop will be in bloom soon; visit the Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre in Willow Tree for guidance on prime viewing spots. There’s also a dedicated Facebook Page keeping sunflower lovers updated on current sunflower field locations in Liverpool Plains.
5. The Little Tin Shed
Just north of Newcastle, you’ll catch sight of a roadside shed selling fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers they grow on their own farm — and on certain dates, it’ll be guarding a beautiful field of sunflowers. The Little Tin Shed is only open on select weekends through the summer, so we’d suggest keeping an eye on the Facebook page for further updates. One thing to note before your visit: it’s a cash-only venue, with a $5 entry fee for adults, free entry for kids 12 and under, and sunflowers for $3 each (or six for $15 if you’re after a bigger bunch). They advise you to bring shears and a bucket to store your flowers in, too.

6. The Giving Farm
An organic, family-run farm that focuses on sustainable produce and giving back to the earth, The Giving Farm hosts seasonal flower picking events throughout the year, and they score bonus points with us for all the cute animals around. Sunflowers tend to be available between October and April, and they run both a mailing list and Facebook group that can keep you updated on the next events. Check it out here, and try picking your own fresh fruit and veg whilst you’re there too.
