Sydney’s four-legged residents are getting their own day on the rails this weekend, with Street Paws Festival returning to the Sydney Tramway Museum in Loftus for a free dog-friendly day out.
On Saturday, 5th September, from 10am to 2pm, pooches and their people can hop aboard a historic tram and trundle through the National Park—a pretty pawsome way to spend a Saturday morning, with the city’s best-behaved passengers getting a front-row seat to the scenery.
The event will bring together pet and market stalls, food and coffee trucks, competitions, giveaways and plenty of opportunities to meet local animal rescue groups.
And of course, your dog can actually ride the tram.
Come for the tram ride, stay for the prize
There’s plenty of reason for your pooch to polish up their best tricks and strut their stuff, with a full afternoon of canine competitions on the cards.
Things kick off at 11am with Best Dressed, followed by Best Trickstar at midday and Best Rescue at 12.30pm. Then, at 1.30pm, it’s time for Australia’s Next Top Dog–Cutest Pooch, where Sydney’s most adorable contenders will battle it out for top honours.
Dachshund devotees can also join a dedicated sausage-dog meet-up, while Smiley Dog, Applaws, YumGuard and Dog Rocks will dish out prizes to the day’s top pups.
A day for the dogs—and the people who help them
The festival is also putting the spotlight on animal rescue, supporting Country Companions Animal Rescue, Hear No Evil Deaf Dog Rescue and Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter.
Pet owners can pick up free medical advice from Veterinary Specialists of Sydney, sample treats from Hairy Tales Pet Food and get insurance advice from Knose Pet Insurance.
