What is the story of Steel Magnolias?
You may be familiar with the film version of Steel Magnolias, but you may not be aware that it was a play before it was turned into a movie. Set in the heart of a Southern town, the story follows a beauty salon that becomes far more to the local women than just a place to have their hair impeccably styled. At Truvy’s Beauty Salon, local women come together to share in one another’s joys and struggles, navigating life’s highs and lows side by side. When tragedy strikes, they find comfort within the salon, and in the unbreakable bond of friendship that holds them together. This is absolutely the kind of story that will have you laughing out loud, while also deeply feeling the emotions each woman experiences.

Who is in the cast?
Steel Magnolias always attracts serious talent to its stage, like when Nicole Kidman made her stage debut in the role, and this run is no exception. Led by director Lee Lewis, the cast stars Lisa McCune (Blue Heelers, Sea Petrol, The 39 Steps), Belinda Giblin (Home & Away, Amadeus, Doubt), Debra Lawrance (Home & Away, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child AU and UK, A Christmas Carol), Mandy Bishop (Wharf Revue, Blue Heelers), Jessica Redmayne (Home & Away, 800 Words, The Great Gatsby) and Lotte Beckett (Julia, The Election Monologues). Needless to say, this is a seriously powerful cast – we can’t wait to see them bring the Steel Magnolias story to life.
