After NSW was hit by frigid weather and damaging winds last weekend with many parts of the state experiencing snowfall, another weekend of extreme weather is set to keep the trend going. The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted yet another crazy weekend of freezing cold weather with frost, damaging winds, and another bout of snowfall expected to lash NSW over the next few days.
The cold front is expected to hit Southern Australia before moving to NSW, ACT, Victoria, and the south coast of Western Australia over the weekend. Areas that could potentially be affected by strong winds and showers include the parts of the south coast, the Central Tablelands, and the Snowy Mountains. Very strong winds with highs of 19C are forecast to impact Sydney, the Illawarra, and Newcastle and snowfall is possible across the central and northern tablelands over the next two days.
“Damaging winds above 90km/h have the potential to bring down trees and powerlines,” Senior Meteorologist Jonathan How explained.
Alpine regions of NSW and Victoria could see snowfall between 20 to 50cm but those looking to enjoy a snow-filled weekend are warned to be extra careful on the roads due to possible blizzard conditions. Skiing and snowboarding would also need to be put on the back burner with many lifts expected to be closed or on wind hold according to Weatherzone. Ski resorts across the country have already recorded some of the heaviest snowfall of the season this month. Weatherzone also predicts between 30cm and 60cm of snow should accumulate in the ski resorts by Monday.
Sydney is predicted to get a break from the wintry conditions next week but another cold front can be expected in the coming weeks.
