A low-pressure system brought frigid and icy temps to NSW over the weekend with some parts of NSW experiencing the coldest day of the year on Monday. The weather conditions are set to continue with more snowfall expected across NSW over the next two days. The most extensive snowfall has been predicted across NSW in the last two years according to the ABC with many towns in the state likely to receive a dusting of snow at elevations much lower than just the mountains. The Bureau of Meteorology also predicts damaging wind, flooding, and snow across southeast Australia with snow possible even on the Queensland border.
Snow arrived in parts of NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania over the weekend with the Central Tablelands, some parts of the Northern Tablelands, and the Australian Alps receiving light snowfall on Sunday. Snow has gradually increased with several towns expected to receive more snow, especially on Tuesday. Among these are Oberon, Orange, Lithgow, and the Blue Mountains. Places like Armidale, Guyra, and Glen Innes could get some light snowfall on Tuesday night.
Weather warnings
Meanwhile, wind warnings have been issued for NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania with damaging winds averaging 60 to 70kmh expected in the NSW and ACT alpine regions. Weatherzone also predicts that a rare stratospheric warming event taking place over Antarctica could potentially result in increasingly frigid weather in the east coast of Australia for the next month or more.
