Sydney’s Northern Beaches just got its wellness glow-up, with Positive Energy harnessing Miami Art Deco ambience into a booze-free social revolution.
Finally, Positive Energy, a striking new health and fitness venue in Balgowlah, has officially made its debut with a community launch set for Saturday, 7th March, complete with free movement classes, live music and sunny courtyard hangs.
While Sydney’s appetite for bathhouses and design-led wellness spaces shows no sign of slowing, Positive Energy brings something slightly different to the table—or rather, to the mat.
Additionally, Positive Energy exists at the intersection of a fitness studio, social hub and zen retreat—it trades after-work beers for steamy saunas, bracing ice plunges, and frothy matcha lattes.
“It’s about movement as a shared experience,” says founder Jodie Hines. “I wanted to build a sanctuary where design, amenities and café culture work together—somewhere people can come to feel energised, grounded, and genuinely connected.”
A Mindful Alternative To The Pub

Designed by Woodward Architects, the venue channels Miami’s Art Deco character with its curved walls, soft pastel palette and a light-drenched courtyard that feels more Palm Springs than gym floor.
Inside, sleek studios host a full calendar of classes—from strength and boxing to yoga, Pilates and even “S-Pilates,” a spin-and-Pilates hybrid aimed at time-poor urbanites.
Moreover, they also do “Bro-lates,” a strength-based Pilates class tailored for men, nods to a broader shift toward more inclusive wellness spaces.
The private Therapy Rooms are designed to hold space with intention and flexibility. The team created them for facilitators, practitioners and healers to deliver massage, one-on-one consults, breathwork, energy healing and more.
Also, beyond the studio doors, an affordable juice and smoothie café keeps the energy flowing with cold-pressed juices, turmeric lattes and smashed avo on sourdough. Unlike most gyms, Positive Energy encourages lingering on slow mornings and long chats after class.

Redefining Sydney’s “Third Spaces”

The opening of Positive Energy feels emblematic of where Sydney’s social culture is heading—away from nightlife and into connection-forward, alcohol-free settings that bridge wellness and hospitality.
Similarly, from the inner city’s bathhouses to the Northern Beaches’ outdoor gyms and ocean pools, the city’s definition of community is being rewritten through movement and ritual.
In that sense, Positive Energy goes beyond fitness to it’s part of a larger cultural shift toward spaces that prioritise wellbeing, design and genuine social connection.
So, whether you’re into Pilates, sound baths or just a solid cuppa in warm light, it’s the kind of spot that makes slowing down feel like a non-negotiable.
The Community Open Day at Positive Energy runs on 7th March 2026 from 6am to 4pm at 5 Hayes Street, Balgowlah, with free mini classes, local markets and family-friendly activities all on the lineup.
