Parramatta Square is getting a new lighting upgrade, with new concepts endorsed for the precinct as the City of Parramatta looks to transform the CBD after dark.
The Parramatta Square Lighting project will introduce new lighting across key areas of the precinct, aiming to make the city centre more welcoming and engaging at night while improving the visitor experience.
Stage 1 will transform five key locations across Parramatta Square, with Council expecting to complete the works in late 2027.
The project will build on Parramatta Square’s role as an important public space and create a more vibrant nighttime environment for residents, workers and visitors across the city.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the project would help make the precinct more inviting after dark. “Parramatta Square is the heart of our CBD and this project will help make it an even more welcoming and inviting place to visit after dark,” Cr Zaiter said.
Council will also investigate opportunities for a second stage of the project, including a feature lighting installation that could further enhance Parramatta Square.
Five locations targeted in first stage
Cr Zaiter said the upgrades would build on the success of the precinct and contribute to Parramatta’s ambitions as a global city. “Great cities are defined by great public spaces, and Parramatta is no exception,” he said.
“These improvements will transform how people experience the precinct, creating a place that is full of energy and safe to explore by night.”
The project forms part of Council’s greater push to create a safer, more vibrant CBD, with the lighting intended to give Parramatta Square a stronger presence after sunset.
