After the long-awaited light rail and a brand new beach, Western Sydney is set to welcome another major development as early as next year. A new “city-shaping corridor” connecting the Parramatta CBD to the Parramatta River is set to open in 2026. The $21-million Civic Link project will establish a key connection in Sydney’s second CBD, extending from George Street to Phillip Street along Horwood Place. Bridging main areas, the ‘Grand Boulevard‘ will link Parramatta Square and future public spaces near the Sydney Metro West to the south, and the Powerhouse Parramatta to the north, both currently under development.
Parramatta’s population is expected to grow to nearly 450,000 by 2050, and the funding will help establish a new green space in the area. The public area will also include cafés, retail spaces, new seating, shaded areas and trees and pop-up activations for the local community.
“Civic Link is more than just a pathway. It’s our version of a grand boulevard – stretching from Parramatta Square to the river and lined with restaurants, cafes, and retail. A place for visitors, residents and workers alike to gather, celebrate, and enjoy nature in the heart of our city,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr Martin Zaiter said about the Civic Link.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026 along with other big projects like the Western Sydney International Airport. Find more information about it here.
