Parramatta‘s transformation into Sydney’s second CBD has gained steady momentum in recent years, with new restaurants, major cultural venues and ambitious developments reshaping the city centre. Now, another milestone is on the horizon, with plans progressing for a dedicated entertainment precinct that could bring more life to the CBD after dark. Backed by fresh NSW Government funding, the City of Parramatta is preparing to trial a Special Entertainment Precinct in the heart of the city, supporting its long-term vision of becoming a vibrant, round-the-clock destination. If the proposal moves ahead, it could pave the way for later trading, more live entertainment and a busier nightlife in Western Sydney.

The $195,000 funding will allow the City of Parramatta to develop and trial a Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP), a planning framework designed to support a more vibrant night-time economy while balancing the needs of nearby residents. As part of the process, council will undertake planning, prepare acoustic guidelines and carry out community consultation before any changes are introduced.
The proposed precinct in the Parramatta CBD is designed to encourage a more active night-time economy by making it easier for hospitality venues, retailers, live music venues and creative spaces to trade later into the evening. The trial also aims to create more opportunities for live performances and cultural events, while offering incentives for participating venues, including access to extended trading hours and reduced liquor licence fees. If successful, it would become another major step in Parramatta’s long-term transformation into a destination that remains alive well beyond traditional business hours.
