From scenic bushwalks to sprawling national parks, Sydney is home to some of NSW’s best outdoor spaces. As suburbs continue to grow and existing communities expand, so too does the demand for places where people can walk, play and spend time outdoors. Locals now have another recreational spot to add to the list, with a brand-new park officially opening in Appin. Spanning 17 hectares, the new public space has transformed former pastureland into a thoughtfully designed destination that balances recreation with the surrounding natural environment. Here’s what you’ll find at the newly opened Toggerai Park.
Toggerai Park is now open in Appin, NSW
The new park has been designed with both recreation and conservation in mind, offering a one-kilometre network of walking trails, expansive open lawns and nature-inspired play spaces for children. Families can make use of shaded picnic areas with barbecues, accessible amenities and drinking fountains, while younger visitors can explore a playground featuring a striking lyrebird climbing structure, a flying fox and swings.
A strong emphasis has also been placed on protecting the surrounding landscape. Existing native vegetation has been preserved throughout the park, with the design planned to complement the neighbouring bushland and nearby koala habitat while creating new opportunities for recreation and community gatherings. The project was delivered in partnership with Wollondilly Shire Council following community consultation to ensure the park reflected the needs of local residents.
Planning and Public Spaces Minister Paul Scully said, “Great neighbourhoods need great public spaces,” adding that Toggerai Park gives Appin families “a fantastic new place to spend time together, get active and enjoy the outdoors.”
Visitors can also attend a free Community Day on Saturday, July 19, celebrating the opening of the park. The event will include a fun run, lawn games, children’s story time and food and refreshments, giving families an opportunity to explore the new space while taking part in a range of activities.

Getting there
Appin is around one hour drive south-west of Sydney CBD, about 18 minutes south of Campbelltown and 30 minutes from Wollongong via the escarpment. Toggerai Park is located just north of the town centre and has a dedicated on-site car park for visitors.
