Public transport fares are set to increase again in Sydney and NSW from Monday, July 1 for the second time in a year. Commuters across NSW will see an average price rise of 3.6 percent on the state’s buses, trains, and ferries in line with the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI). Transport for NSW says most commuters will see an increase of less than $1 taking into account travel caps and Opal discounts.
Adult fares on train and metro train rides will see a price increase of a maximum of 49 cents while the prices for bus and light rail trips will be increased by a maximum of 27 cents, according to Transport for NSW. Ferry trips are set to increase by 43 cents.
Fares for children, youth, and concession card holders will be increased by 24 cents for trains and metro, 14 cents for light rail and buses, and 22 cents for the ferry.
The weekly travel cap is set to remain the same. “The weekly fare cap will stay at $50 for adults and $25 for child/youth and concession card holders. Seniors and pensioners will continue to be charged no more than $2.50 per day,” department secretary Josh Murray said of the opal fare changes.
“Weekend fares on Fridays will still apply, meaning Friday fares will be capped at $9.35 for all adults and $4.65 for child/youth and concession card holders for the whole day.”
Additionally, the station access fee for the Domestic and International Airport train stations will increase to about $17.34 for adults and $15.50 for children, youth, concessions, and seniors.
