The Australian Taxation Office has released a list of the richest postcodes in the country and 7 out of the top 10 are right here in Sydney. Double Bay took out the top spot with residents in the area earning more than $354,308 for the 2021-22 income year, four times more than the average taxable Aussie income of $72,327 for the financial year the study is based on, so they don’t call it ‘Double Pay’ for nothing. Next on the list was the postcode 2027 with the suburbs Darling Point, Edgecliff and Point Piper. Residents in the area earn an average income of $269,777. The harbourside suburb of Bellevue Hill was the third Sydney spot on the list at number 5 with an average income of $245,728.
On the other end of the spectrum, the ATO also revealed the top 10 poorest suburbs with 3 of the top 10 located in NSW. Newcastle University and The University of NSW were deemed the poorest and second-poorest respectively. Bellata, a small village in north-central NSW also made the list at number 10.
