Sydney’s food scene is getting a major new addition this month, with a popular Melbourne event making its way north for the first time. The Little Food Market will take over Carriageworks for three delicious days this August bringing more than 180 artisan food and drink brands together under one roof. The weekend-long feast will showcase some of the country’s most exciting producers and culinary talent, with plenty of opportunities to sample, shop and discover new favourites along the way. Expect freshly prepared dishes to tuck into on the spot, alongside live cooking demonstrations, tastings and appearances from well-known Australian chefs and food personalities. What to expect at The Little Food Market, Sydney
Come hungry because there’ll be plenty worth eating at the market. Attenzione Food & Wine will be serving dishes including pumpkin fritti topped with hot honey and manchego, grilled lamb neck rolls, meatballs in sugo and pistachio tiramisu. Olympic Meats will bring Greek flavours to the mix with Constantinople-style pita souvlaki, kimadopita and flaky hortopita, while Tento will dish up Japanese comfort food including ochazuke, bento boxes and chicken and eggplant sandos, followed by yuzu, matcha and black sesame cheesecakes.
Those looking to stock their pantry can browse everything from artisan chilli oils and black garlic to cultured butter, premium olive oils, smallgoods, fermented foods and Japanese pantry staples. Gluten-free, plant-based and non-alcoholic options will also be available throughout the market.
The live program is worth checking out too. Pastry chef Christopher Thé will showcase his strawberry watermelon cake 2.0, while George Calombaris will prepare his mussels and mash. Wine expert Mike Bennie and Pepe Saya’s Melissa Altman and Pierre Issa are also joining the program, with sessions covering everything from cheese and ricotta to Australian wine and modern Asian flavours. Better yet, the demonstrations and masterclasses include complimentary tastings, so you won’t just be watching from the sidelines.
