Sydney’s sweet tooth is in for a serious treat this May when cult New York bakery Milk Bar lands in Australia for the first time—and it’s none other than founder and celebrity chef Christina Tosi leading the charge.
The celebrated American pastry chef is jetting Down Under to mark the return of American Express delicious. Month Out (AEDMO), the month-long dining celebration encouraging Australians to eat their way through their cities.
Running across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra, the annual campaign champions everything from neighbourhood diners to destination restaurants.
NYC Desserts Down Under

Tosi—known for reimagining childhood favourites into nostalgic, cheffy desserts—will take over Good Chemistry, the Ace Hotel Sydney’s laneway café, transforming it into an homage to the Milk Bar experience from 1st–3rd May.
For three mornings only (8 am–2 pm), Sydneysiders can finally get their hands on her famed Cereal Milk soft serve, gooey compost cookies and a one-off limited-edition Australian-inspired dessert made exclusively for the occasion.
“I’m so excited to be bringing Milk Bar to Ace Hotel Sydney,” Tosi said. “I can’t wait to share some of our most-loved creations, along with a dessert for this moment—an homage to the flavours Australians know and love, with a signature Milk Bar twist.”
The pop-up coincides with the seventh year of delicious. Naysla Edwards, Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Member Experience, said the goal remains simple, which is to keep people dining out.
“At its heart, AEDMO is about encouraging people to venture out somewhere new,” she said, adding that the initiative has now contributed more than $216 million to the Australian dining industry since its 2020 launch.
For most, Tosi’s fleeting Sydney appearance is the real draw—promising a sugary collision of New York nostalgia and Aussie flavour that feels as rare as it is indulgent, especially for anyone who puts dessert at the top of the menu.
