Sydney’s dance scene is gearing to feel like the sets of Step Up this April as Red Bull Dance Your Style returns for its fifth Australian instalment—this time as part of the event’s world tour. The lively competition lands at Darling Harbour’s Pier Street Underpass on Saturday, April 18, promising freestyle battles, spontaneous music drops, and a crowd that quite literally calls the shots.
There are no judges, routines or rules—except one: move like your life depends on it. The world-famous all-styles street dance competition transforms spectators into decision-makers, with cheers, reactions, and applause determining the winner.
That unpredictable format has turned Red Bull Dance Your Style into a viral sensation, pulling in over 1.6 billion views at last year’s World Final, which even caught the eye of Spice Girl Mel B, stunned by dancers busting moves to “Wannabe.”
International stars lead Sydney

Before Saturday’s showdown, Sydney will welcome two global street dance icons—Kyoka from Japan and MT Pop from Vietnam—who’ll run hands-on workshops in Western Sydney (Bankstown Arts Centre, 16th April) and Inner West (DUTI Studios, Newtown, 17th April).
Both are internationally celebrated for breaking conventions and pushing creativity, bringing raw energy to every performance.
Over the years, Kyoka and MT Pop have become symbols of street dance individuality, known for explosive freestyling and genre-blending technique. Their presence underscores how seriously Sydney’s scene is taken on the world stage.
“The beauty of Dance Your Style is the freedom,” says Kyoka. “It’s not about perfection—it’s about connection. The music hits, and you just go.”
Local dancers under global spotlight

Sydney’s qualifiers will see rising dancers from across Australia battling it out for a spot in the National Final. More specifically, 16 competitors will freestyle to tracks chosen at random, covering everything from hip hop and house to waacking, krump and dancehall. Next comes pure spontaneity, as flow, musicality and crowd energy run the competition.
Last year’s Australian leg produced standout viral moments, including Amanda Va’s routine to 50 Cent’s “Just A Lil’ Bit,” which notched more than 21 million views across platforms. This time, Sydneysiders can experience that electricity up close—before it spreads online.
With street dance increasingly shaping global culture, from viral TikTok hits to fashion and music videos, Sydney’s qualifier promises to be a reflection of the movement’s evolution: expressive and community-driven
