If you’re looking for a good, therapeutic workout for both your arms and your mind, you’ll want to clear your calendar for this one. A brand new, Viking-themed bar is heading our way next month and we can’t wait to channel some angst with this ideal stress buster of an activity. Maniax (which is a pretty spot on name) is a sprawling 350-person space allowing you to let off some steam in a fun and controlled manner. Truly axecellent.
Maniax, Marrickville
Opening its doors this April in Marrickville, Maniax promises a holistic adventure with delicious feeds, drinks and a Viking-esque setting for the full experience.
A team of axe-perts will be on hand to help you bury the hatchet as you partake in a tournament-style competition, fit for both amateurs and pros. Better yet, the decor fully embraces the lumberjack aesthetic with immersive elements like acid-washed concrete floors, leather banquettes, an antiqued mirror and an antler chandelier to truly transport you to a different time.
You’ll be surrounded by horns, shields, runes, axes, helmets, ropes, furs and hides for a complete old-world experience. There’s even a chalet-style fireplace and a throne. I mean, can you think of a better party set up?
Sip on delicious Viking-themed cocktails while you wait your turn to hit the battleground. Also on hand are local craft beers, wines and soft drinks so you have ample fuel on hand to keep you going.
Naturally you’ll work up an appetite while you throw down. Keep up your aim with slow cooked meats, pizzas or burgers along with sharing boards decked up with cheeses, meats, fruit, toasted nuts and all that good stuff.
Not sure this is your thing? Simply book a ‘Quick Chuck’ one-hour session to suss it out before you commit. But don’t be surprised if you end up staying all day.
