A new community green has opened in Sydney’s fast-growing south-west, giving families a place to come together, with a 7.6-hectare park now open in Leppington.
The NSW Government partnered with Liverpool City Council to transform former pastureland into a sprawling recreation space opposite Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Camden Valley Way. The park caters to everyone from young children to teenagers, with a pump track, play areas, picnic spots and walking paths winding through landscaped grasslands.
The opening comes as Leppington continues to grow, with the recently finalised Leppington Town Centre rezoning paving the way for around 11,500 new homes and 11,000 jobs over the next two decades.
What’s inside the new park?
The centrepiece of the new park is a beginner-friendly pump track for bikes, skateboards, scooters and rollerblades, alongside a youth precinct featuring a basketball and netball half-court, climbing boulders and hammocks.
Younger visitors can explore a nature-inspired playground with sandstone steps, climbing nets and balance logs, while a dedicated sensory play area includes timber xylophones, chimes and voice tubes. The park also features inclusive playground equipment, including a basket swing, spinner and slide.
Moreover, visitors will find sheltered picnic areas, an accessible amenities block, a paved walking path connecting to Camden Valley Way, parking for 15 vehicles and extensive native planting and revegetation throughout the site.
Enhancing Leppington’s growing community
The new green space forms part of broader plans to expand public amenities as Leppington develops into one of Sydney’s fastest-growing suburbs. Alongside new housing, the town centre plans include additional parks, green corridors, a civic plaza and transport upgrades.
The NSW Government delivered the park through its Parks for People program, which has also funded new and upgraded public open spaces in Appin, Parramatta, the Northern Beaches, Beaumont Hills, Fairfield and Penrith.
Also, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the park would give residents access to quality public space close to home. “As Leppington grows into a major new centre for homes and jobs, we’re making sure families have the great public open spaces they need close to home.”
Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty said the park would become an important community gathering place. “Whether it’s riding the pump track, playing basketball with friends or simply enjoying a picnic outdoors, this park has something for everyone and will become a much-loved gathering place for our community.”
Free community events to celebrate
The NSW Government will celebrate the park’s opening with two free community days in August. Visitors can take part in free sports and recreation activities on Sunday, 23rd August and Sunday, 30th August 2026, from 10am to 2pm.
The events will include BMX sessions run by Macarthur BMX Club, with loan bikes available, while the first community day will also feature bouldering and basketball and netball activities.
