An interactive new artwork has come to town and it’s seriously trippy. Kaleidoscope, a larger-than-life interactive mirror maze has landed at Powerhouse Ultimo with mirrors, lights, colours, sounds and more. Immerse yourself in the light-filled maze and wander through a bunch of vibrant corridors at the multi-sensory experience which is heading to Sydney for a limited season only. Following successful runs in Melbourne’s Rising Festival, Brisbane, Bendigo, Bathurst and more, the artwork has swung open its doors for Sydneysiders this winter.
Kaleidoscope, Sydney
Kaleidoscope joins a slew of fascinating immersive experiences that have taken over Sydney this winter with plenty of Insta-worthy opps and intergalactic elements. Inspired by a classic kaleidoscope toy, the artwork comes to town courtesy of Melbourne-based artist Keith Courtney.
Colour meets light at this immersive activation which shapeshifts from day to night with distinct features. During the day visitors will see a dazzling playground of wonder and at night, the space becomes a neon-lit field of light glowing under the night sky. Akin to an actual kaleidoscope, you’ll find mirrors, luminous glass and translucent beads of colour at the installation.
As the light shifts and the structure rotates, a dazzling refractive interplay will engulf visitors in light and colour. Tying it all together is a lovely soundscape composed by violinist and producer Tamil Rogeon featuring the National Boys Choir of Australia.
Get your cameras ready as you wander the corridors at the immersive event. It takes place from until September 10, 2023. Head here to grab your tickets.
