There are many things Sydney does well and immersive experiences are at the top of the list (looking at you Vivid). With bright flashing lights, vibrant colours and cutting-edge technology, these events will transport you to another time. From the magical world of Harry Potter to a techno rave under Wynyard Station, these one-of-a-kind experiences are a must-see this winter. Check out some of our favourites below.
1. Harry Potter: Yule Ball Celebration
The long-awaited Yule Ball Celebration swings open its doors this week and it promises a multi-sensory extravaganza. There are many interactive and immersive elements including themed food and drinks, stunning decorations and a festive atmosphere filled with light and colour. Plus, expect hosts and performances to entertain you throughout the evening and even a Yule Ball market to shop from. Don’t miss out.

2. Candyland at The Grounds
The Grounds is back with a new theme and it might be their sweetest one yet. Candyland is their latest activation and it comes with picture-perfect neon laneways, giant lollipop towers, a gumball machine and you guessed it, lots of candy. There are also heaps of limited-edition sweet treats and drinks including shakes, cocktails, cakes and more. Read all about it and book a spot here.
3. Candlelight Concerts
It doesn’t get more immersive and magical than one of Sydney’s dreamy Candlelight Concerts. Revisit the music of some of your favourite artists from Queen to Taylor Swift and more while bathed in the glow of candlelight. It’s also an excellent first-date idea if you’re planning a romantic night out. Take your pick from one of these excellent concerts set to take place this Season.
4. Dark Spectrum
We’ve been raving about Dark Spectrum for a while now and if you haven’t experienced this immersive event yet, you still have time to do so until July 16. And take our word for it, this might be one of the coolest events in town right now. There are eight rooms to explore, each illuminated by robots, lasers, music, light displays and more. 5. Lightscape
Another highlight Vivid event that you can still enjoy is the immersive Lightscape experience. It’s taken over the Royal Botanic Garden until July 16 and it’s a serious vibe. At the light and sound show visitors can go on a 2.1km journey through an immersive world filled with tree canopies, glowing tunnels, fire-breathing dragons and more. You’ll also find a sea of lights and flowers galore along with cosy treats to keep you warm. Get more information here.
6. Luna Park in the Dark
Luna Park is powering down in a big way from July 12-15. The amusement park will switch off its lights and allow guests to experience Sydney Harbour under the moonlight. Tickets for the event cost $60 and guests can enjoy unlimited rides, specialty food offerings, roaming entertainment and street performers across the four days. Grab your tickets here.
7. Haus of Horror
If you’re a horror buff, Haur of Horror will keep you well-fed with their immersive cinema experiences. Previously the team has organised screenings of iconic horror movies like The Exorcist and Beetlejuice in cemeteries and haunted gaols with live music and themed food and drinks to make it extra immersive and there’s a lot more coming.
