Things to do in Huskisson this summer

Whether you’re spending the morning soaking up the sun at Hyams Beach, home to some of the world’s whitest sand, or sipping a cocktail at a local wine bar, the best way to experience Huskisson is by getting out on the water. You can jump on a dolphin-watching cruise to see the resident pods that frequent the waters year-round, or if you’re feeling adventurous, hire a kayak or stand-up paddleboard and explore the calm, clear waters of Currambene Creek, which winds right through the heart of town.
The town sits within Jervis Bay Marine Park, a protected area known for its abundant marine life, so keep an eye out for dolphins, as well as fur seals, little penguins and the occasional weedy sea dragon, especially on clear summer days. For coastal scenery on land, you’ll want to pencil in a visit to the wildly picturesque and underrated Booderee National Park. Here you will find a gorgeous botanic garden, incredible beaches, walking trails and crystal clear waters that are calling your name. One of the highlights is the White Sands Walk, a scenic coastal trail that links several of Jervis Bay’s most stunning white sand beaches, including Hyams Beach, Chinamans and Murrays Beach. Although just 2.5km long, we recommend stopping for leisurely swim and scenic detours along the way to make the most of it.

Other must-do summer adventures include a walk along the 1.4km Huskisson Mangrove Boardwalk, which offers a close look at the mangroves and mudflats of Currambene Creek, with plenty of birdlife to spot along the way. To learn more about the town’s past, the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum showcases local seafaring history, including nautical equipment, models, photographs, maritime artefacts and much more and if you fancy a nocturnal adventure, book a guided astronomy session on the beach after sunset with Jervis Bay stargazing.

Start your day with a stellar cup of coffee and breakfast at Harley’s at Husky, right in the heart of town or make your way to Salty Joe’s for hearty brunch while overlooking the bay. 5 Little Pigs is another coastal cafe known for their coffee and breakfast. On a hot day, you can’t skip Merciers Gelato & Coffee, for some of the best gelato in the area.
