Boat tours are a fabulous way to explore the city. And as summer kicks off in full gear, a brand new experience has come to town and it’s made for one and all. GoBoat — an exciting boating service essentially allows you to captain an electric boat unlicensed. The concept originally took off in Scandinavia but has already made waves in Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast before finally hitting our shores in Sydney this week.

The boats are easy to operate and slow moving making for a breezy, relaxed sailing session. Even better — the fuss-free vessels are environment friendly, made from recycled plastic bottles and consisting of uber quiet electric engines thereby emitting no noise or smoke.
Age and experience are no barriers on these boats and you can set sail from Cabarita Point, and adventure along the inner west or just soak in the sun with a bottle of red wine for up to five hours.
“Most of our customers are first-time skippers, with no previous boating experience beyond catching a ferry. You do not need a boat licence to hire our boats; with our electric motors it’s really simple, with no fumes and no noise,” Nick Tyrrell, Founder of GoBoat Australia said.
Each GoBoat can seat up to 8 people and highlights include a communal recycled timber picnic table and sunshade for protection so you can finally start planning that long overdue picnic catch-up with your mates.
Options are available to book the boat for up to five hours with a super affordable hourly rate of just $129 per hour. A safety briefing and demonstration will be provided prior to setting sail and safety equipment including life jackets will be on hand.
