NSW is full of little quirks including famous ‘big things‘, funny town names, and cheeky, outright risqué street names that will make you do a double-take. Now a recent study has scoured the state to find the funniest street names and the top honour goes to the suburb of Minto in Sydney. Head about 50 kilometres southwest of the Sydney CBD and you’ll find yourself on Lois Lane, crowned the funniest street name in NSW. Yes, just like Superman’s famous love interest. Bigga Place in Googong, Bum Crack Track, and Bogan Place (for obvious reasons) all gave Lois Lane a run for its money.
Funniest Street Names in NSW
International Cargo Express (ICE) reviewed every street name in Australia listed on OpenStreetMap, applying advanced techniques like sentiment analysis and pun detection algorithms to uncover the most humorous street names.
The study also highlighted that while many of Australia’s street names are humorous, they often have deep connections to the land and the people who originally settled there.
Other Australian states were not far behind. Dookie Street in the Australian Capital Territory, Back Passage, a rural road in Queensland, Spanker Road in Victoria, and Stoner Street in Western Australia all made the list.
There are several other runner-ups worth mentioning including Struggle Street in WA, Lusty Lane in Nyah West, a small town in Victoria, Bum Bum Road, Fartoo Close, and Thong Avenue in Queensland.
