Dust off your floral shirts and your flares, because the grooviest way to spend the spring school holidays is about to jive into town. Darling Harbour will welcome an open-air roller rink from Saturday, September 28, full of thrills and (knowing us) spills. Boasting a live DJ, themed nights, and plenty of flattering disco lighting, it’s a ravishingly retro way to spend the day, and we’re itching to hit the rink.
Roller rinks have, sadly, fallen a bit out of fashion since their heyday in the 70s and 80s, but the Darling Harbour roller rink will bring the good times back for two glorious weeks. Soundtracked by the best 70s hits, you can glide or stumble – depending on your skill level – around the rink, throwing out shapes as you go. Expect a few theme nights, too; we’ve been told of nights devoted to Barbie, ABBA, Taylor Swift, Pride, Latina, and more
Outside the rink, there will be an array of photo ops and retro-themed decorations to enjoy, whilst you can head to the food trucks after you’ve worked up an appetite boogying your way around the rink. Adult guests will be thrilled to learn that there’s also an on-site cocktail bar, but as always, responsibility is key: don’t drive and groove.
It’s cheaper to bring your own skates – with tickets starting at $16.50 for kids aged 5-17, and $20 for adults – but if you need to furnish yourself with a pair, you can get ticket packages with skate rental included. Those will set you back $20 for kids (aged 5-17), and $27 for adults, and you can book them via the Darling Harbour website. It’s a thrilling throwback experience that’s open up until the end of the school holidays, so will you be heading down for a boogie?
