It’s all about Parisian bistro fare, French cocktails and nostalgic vibes at Bondi’s newest French bistro and bar, Chouchou. Nestled in the busy suburb of Bondi, this cosy spot comes from Arthur Gruselle of burger joint, Aunty Ed’s in Katoomba. Chouchou, which translates to darling or sweetheart in French aims to infuse a touch of romance into the beachy spot. An ode to the small Parisian bars and bistros, it comes with an atrium-courtyard out front and terrasse-style dining on the footpath.
Chouchou, Bondi
Providing diners with an intimate yet approachable space, Chouchou is ideal for a celebration or a first-date situation. Moody green and emerald walls, blonde hardwood table and bar tops, rattan-backed dining chairs and dim lighting make up the interiors.
The menu is classic French complete with bistro bites, sharing boards and larger dishes. Expect Oeuf mimosa, baked Camembert, Croque madame, salad Niçoise, Tartiflette and hand-cut steak tartare with pomme frites. There’s also a selection of seasonal cheeses, cured meats and fresh breads from Tonton Bread in Surry Hills. Raclette is also on the menu alongside a burner so you can melt your own cheese. Gather your friends and dip all the accompanying vegetables, cornichons, cured meats and bread and fuel your fromage obsession without guilt. The wine list is equally stacked with affordable French, Australian and New Zealand labels on the menu and delicious cocktails to boot.
Chouchou is open from 4pm, Wednesday through to Sunday. Experience a slice of France at home and book a table here.
